This post is a meta one, but I think it's important to set the scene for what Study Vault is, how it works, some questions that come up a lot, and where we want to go with it.
What is Study Vault?
Study Vault is a collection of notes, flashcard sets, and past papers for CSEC students (and soon, CAPE students). The content is all written by students, for students, and is designed to be engaging, clear, concise, and most importantly, useful for getting marks in exams.
It began as a bunch of notes sitting on my laptop. I'm a bit of a perfectionist, so I always tried to constantly improve them – add diagrams, rephrase, make drawings, add flashcard sets to drill the content. After a while I realised that if I were going to put so much effort into my notes anyway, I might as well share them.
We aim for the vault to be a one-stop shop for CSEC revision, with everything you need to know for the exams in one place. The notes are aligned to the syllabus, so you can be sure you're covering everything you need to know.
Why not just use textbooks?
Textbooks are great for learning new content, but they can be overwhelming when it comes to revision. They often contain a lot of extra information that isn't directly relevant to the exams, and it can be hard to know what to focus on. Study Vault is designed to cut through the noise and provide the precise information needed to maximise marks in the exams.
What's already here
Right now the vault covers Chemistry, Biology, English Language, English Literature, Spanish, and Mathematics at the CSEC level. As I myself am a CSEC student, I add new content on a rolling basis as I get free time in between exams. Next subjects I hope to implement are Physics and Additional Mathematics in the coming days.
Why isn't X subject covered yet?
Myself and the small circle of other contributors to the vault are all students, so we have to balance making notes with actually studying for our own exams. We also firmly believe that notes should not be heavy. They should be concise, clear, engaging, and made to maximise mark potential. That takes proofreading, rephrasing, and constant revision. We also wish to supplement that with studying features to make content more engaging and easier to learn.
Currently, the focus is on quality over quantity. We also prioritise subjects based on what we are doing ourselves, as well as subjects with the highest demand from users and the biggest gaps in online content. We know it's frustrating to not have a subject covered yet, but we want to make sure that when we do add it, it's actually useful and worth reading.
What's coming
More subject coverage is in the works, with a particular focus on closing the gaps that come up most in feedback. Beyond that, we're building ways to interact with the material that go beyond reading notes — some of which have no good equivalent anywhere else for CSEC students. CAPE is on the roadmap too, though that's a longer horizon.
Monetisation
Study Vault is free and always will be. We're not interested in paywalling notes. If we ever add paid features, they'll be genuinely optional extras, not a padlock on pre-existing content.
We want to make Study Vault the best it can be, and that means listening to feedback and being transparent about what we're doing. If you have any questions, suggestions, or just want to say hi, feel free to reach out.
Thank you for being part of the Study Vault community. We're excited to have you here and can't wait to see how we can help you succeed in your exams!
